Loy E Bates was my Uncle. He went by Lucky. He was at Pearl Harbor and was 16 years old. He blew the boogle calling everyone to action. The boogle now rests in the National WWII Museum.
I really appreciate you maintaining such a complete, professional and touching website, and sending out periodic email updates. I have used your site to learn more about a distant cousin of mine who was a flamethrower operator, Domenick P. Tutalo. Your research even led me to read a book in which he and his fellow marines were highlighted. Thanks for all you’re doing. Just want to let you know it’s a great service you’ve done.
Thanks, Frank – much appreciated! I got to spend some time with Dom before he passed – we lived a few towns apart in New Jersey for a while. He was a wonderful guy and is very much missed.
